Which Conroe Road Projects Are Finishing in Fall 2026?

October 14, 2026

Short answer

Conroe road projects split into two camps this fall. TxDOT's Sept. 4, 2026 update, reported by Community Impact on Sept. 24, 2026, put the Hwy. 105 widening from South Loop 336 to FM 1484 at 98% complete and FM 1097 near Willis at 96%, both aimed at the third quarter of 2026. Other work runs to 2027 and 2028.

Which Conroe road projects are nearly finished?

Three jobs sit near the finish line. Community Impact reported on Sept. 24, 2026, citing TxDOT's Sept. 4 status update, that the Hwy. 105 widening from South Loop 336 to FM 1484 is 98% complete. It started in February 2023 and carries a third-quarter 2026 target.

The same report put the FM 1097 widening, from Blueberry Hills Road to Lake Conroe Hills Drive, at 96% complete. That job costs $20.21 million in federal and state money and also targets the third quarter of 2026.

A smaller FM 1097 job at Atkins Creek, a culvert replacement with added shoulders, was 95% complete at $4.41 million, with the same third-quarter target. The last few percent of any road job is usually striping, signals, punch-list fixes and inspections, which is why the final stretch moves slowest.

What is still under construction into 2028?

Three projects have long runways, per the same Sept. 24, 2026 Community Impact report on TxDOT's Sept. 4 data. The Hwy. 105 widening from 10th Street to South Loop 336 was 65% complete, running March 2023 to the second quarter of 2028.

The South Loop 336 widening from I-45 to Ladera Creek Trace was 80% complete, running November 2024 to the third quarter of 2027, at $20.57 million in state funds.

The I-45 direct connector, northbound I-45 to eastbound Hwy. 242, was listed at 10% complete, down from 20% in the earlier update. It runs second quarter 2025 to third quarter 2028 at $42.63 million in federal and state funds. The article gave no reason for the drop, so I will not guess at one.

What does a percent-complete number tell a driver?

Treat it like a pizza tracker. A bar at 96% tells you the pizza is out of the oven. It does not tell you the driver has found your street.

TxDOT's numbers are snapshots, and the Sept. 4 snapshot is now about six weeks old. A target quarter that ended Sept. 30 can also move. As of October 14, 2026, I have not found a TxDOT closeout notice for either the Hwy. 105 segment or FM 1097, so I am not telling you they are open.

Which Conroe road projects are still on paper?

Calvary Road, between Lake Conroe Bay Road and I-45, was in the design phase at $1.01 million in Montgomery County road bond funds, per the county's Precinct 1 dashboard as cited by Community Impact on Sept. 24, 2026. The article listed no construction date.

Old Conroe Road is the bigger one. Community Impact reported on Jan. 28, 2026 that Conroe City Council approved an agreement on Jan. 22 moving sponsorship of the roughly 5.5-mile project, South Loop 336 to FM 1488 with a new San Jacinto River bridge, to Montgomery County. The estimated total is $221 million, and county construction depends on federal or state funding or a county appropriation. I have not seen a construction start date.

How should buyers and sellers read road work near Conroe and Willis?

Roads change your drive long before they change anything else. If you are buying, drive your actual route at the hours you would actually drive it, and read the home buyer guide for what to ask before you write an offer.

If you are selling, buyers will ask about the orange barrels, so know the project name, the agency and the target date. My seller walkthrough covers what to have ready.

Whether a road project moves a price is a question for sales data and a licensed appraiser. I am a brokerage, not an appraiser, so I will not pretend to know. The monthly market updates are where the actual numbers live.

Bottom line: a road job tells you when your commute changes, not what your house is worth, so check the date and then check the data.

Questions I get about these roads

Is the Hwy. 105 widening between South Loop 336 and FM 1484 finished?

TxDOT's Sept. 4, 2026 update, as reported by Community Impact on Sept. 24, listed it at 98% complete with a third-quarter 2026 target. I have not seen a closeout notice, so check TxDOT's project status page before you plan around it.

Who pays for these projects?

Per Community Impact on Sept. 24, 2026, the Hwy. 105 and South Loop 336 jobs are state-funded, FM 1097 and the I-45 connector use federal and state money, and Calvary Road uses Montgomery County road bond funds.

How do I track a road near a specific address?

State highways appear on TxDOT's Houston District project pages, and county roads appear on Montgomery County precinct dashboards, like the Precinct 1 dashboard Community Impact cited. Or call me at 281-433-9434 and I will help you read the route.
